Dixie Toga was founded in July 1995, as the result of the merger between two large packaging companies: Dixie Lalekla, which began operating in 1945 and was considered to be one of the best in Brazil for the production of tubs for margarines, yogurts and disposables; and Toga, one of the largest manufactures of flexible and semi-rigid packaging in Latin America, which was founded in 1935.
Following the merger, the company set its sights on breaking new ground, always having in mind packaging solutions to offer to its domestic and international clients. Amongst them are:
- The acquisition of American Plast, an Argentinean company which produces plastic and polypaper packaging for food and disposables, which was founded in 1970.
- The acquisition of Impressora Paranaense, located in Curitiba and founded in 1988, which is considered to be the largest graphic design facilities in the country for off-set printing, operating in the semi-rigid packaging area for the hygiene, cleaning, food, cigarette and beverages markets.
- Association with the Flexibles area of Itap, amplifying expressively the participation of the company in the flexible packaging market and incorporating it with the production of thermal packaging for frozen foods, dairy products and fresh pastas.
- Association with Bemis, the largest manufacturer of flexible packaging in the United States, constituting Itap Bemis, which brought new technology to the snacks, frozen, hygiene, dehydrated and dairy product segments.
- Construction of a new industrial complex in Londrina, state of Paraná, to house the divisions devoted to disposables (Dixie) and flexibles (Itap Bemis).
- Construction of a new business unit in the northeast of Brazil in Natal (state of Rio Grande do Norte), dedicated to the margarine, liquids and candy markets.
- Association with ex-Viskase, with a change in name to Curwood Itap Ltda., bringing in the shrink-wrap technology for fresh meat.
- The creation of American Clave, deriving from the merger between American Plast and Clave Plast, the two largest Argentinean producers of rigid packaging, which guaranteed a better demand from local and Mercosur clients.
- The creation of Insit, from the association between Dixie Toga and Polipack, for the production of fine sleeve injection technology packaging, within the clients’ manufacturing unit.
- The creation of Laminor, an alliance between Dixie Toga and Huhtamaki, which made competitive solutions and logistical advantages possible, and consolidated the company’s leading position in the toothpaste packaging market.
- Acquisition of Curwood Itap, now providing technology for production of bags and thermo shrinkable films for raw meat, processed meats, cheeses, and poultry industries.
- Acquisition of Itaipava, whose equity control was held by Alcoa. The plant operates in the market of flexible packaging in aluminum foil and paper for industries of chocolate, sweets, dairy, cigarette, labels, concentrated stocks, and thermo sealant lids.
- Acquisition of the operations of Brazil and Argentina of the Huhtamaki, acting in the market of rigid packings for ices cream, butters, personal hygiene, beyond the manufacture of machines of plants of nourishing and not-nourishing products.
This is the history of Dixie Toga, a company which is today considered a leader in the packaging segment, thanks to the competitive advantages which it offers to its clients, through the constant search for intelligent solutions to different market requirements.
